For a long time now, young men in the county of Murang’a have been digging up grenades believed to have been buried by British soldiers during the colonial period.

The villagers are now selling them off as scrap metal to dealers around the area.

Early this year four children from Ngong, aged between 6 and 12 years, died of a bomb explosion at Kenyatta National Hospital after they picked up a deadly 40mm mortar bomb and played with it, oblivious of the fact that it was a bomb.
