Wax Dey joins Africa’s biggest TV breakfast show

South Africa-based and Cameroon-born singer and activist, Wax Dey (formerly known as Wax) has put on a new cap as presenter on Good Morning Africa, the daily breakfast show on DSTV’s Channel 114 (Africa Magic).

He presents lifestyle and entertainment segments on the show’s Weekender, which broadcasts throughout Africa every Friday through Sunday.

Wax Dey is expected to use his wide experience of the African continent to add flavour to Good Morning Africa, and rope in more viewers and interactions with particularly French-speaking countries

The ‘Miss Real, Mr Regular’ singer was named by American Magazine, Ladybrille as Man of the Month in May 2010, for his use of music to transmit social messages.

He sees this new role as a platform to extend those messages while entertaining viewers.

“The producers, Planet Image Productions think my personality suits the show because as a brand, I appeal to a wide spectrum of Africans both in and out of the entertainment world. But we also share a common interest in social responsibility.”

“Planet Image CEO, Wale Akinlabi is already putting in more resources into highlighting social issues that affect Africans, such as human trafficking and xenophobia. I think this is laudable stance, and I’m proud to be associated with the show,” he said.

Wax Dey is a former brand ambassador for the City of Johannesburg, Spokesperson and communications consultant for the United Nations.

In 2004, he had a stint as a writer with the book, “The Chosen One”, which was used for Grade 11 English in South African public schools.

In 2008, he teamed up with South African music promoter, Edgar Rathelele to establish Lolhiphop Records, a pan-African recording and music publishing company. Lolhiphop Records was involved in the publishing of the 2010 FIFA World Cup song, Waka Waka, and has released albums by a number of artists including South Africa’s Rowick Deep and Nigeria’s Flavour.
