The European Council should deal with the illegal immigration problem during the next meeting to be held on 18 and 19 June”. This is the request of Italian undersecretary to the foreign office, Vincenzo Scotti, said.
Mediterranean countries, Scotti added, approve the Italian proposition. The presidency will decide during the reunion of the Home Affairs and Justice committee of the EU to be held next 4 and 5 June in Luxembourg.
A similar request was also made by Italian foreign ministry, Franco Frattini, not so long ago. “On the fight to illegal immigration – Frattini said – Europe must speak with one voice”. Frattini also wished a European control of the Mediterranean.
