"Asylum right denied", humanitarian associations

Several humanitarian organizations denounced, on January 23, the terrible situation in Lampedusa (Italy). In a press note asked, now more than ten days ago, a meeting with Interior Minister, Roberto Maroni.

Reached by phone, Amnesty International told us that still have not received a reply and that nothing has changed since then in Lampedusa.

“Different institutions working with and for refugees, gathered in the “Asylum Table” (Tavolo Asilo), asked Italian Home ministry, Roberto Maroni, to suspend immediately the new restrictive measures applied to migrants and refugees arrived by boat in Lampedusa”, as stated in a documenti signed by different organisations: Amnesty International Italia, Arci, Asgi, Casa dei diritti sociali-Focus, Centro Astalli, Cir, Comunità di S. Egidio, Federazione delle Chiese Evangeliche in Italia, Medici Senza Frontiere, Movimento migranti e rifugiati di Caserta, Save the Children, Senzaconfine.
