DR Congo Elections: Submission of application for candidates

The electoral commission has given chance to candidates living in Kinshasa, who want to become Member of Parliament in the next elections but failed to arrive in the headquarter of their provinces for registration, to register in Kinhasa. This decision is different from the one made before, every candidate to become a member of parliament had to register in the province or territory where he would stand for as a Member of Parliament.

In the weekly conference meeting led by the speaker of the electoral commission in the DR Congo, it was reported that the electoral commission gives opportunity of enrolment to candidates of membership to parliaments on national and provincial level from all country sides of the DR Congo who are living in Kinshasa, but had problems reaching to enrolment centers in their places.

An office of reception and process of applications of membership to parliament to the next elections is opened today 11th  September 2011 in Kinshasa.

Mathieu Peter, the speaker of the electoral commission reported on the Radio Okapi on 10th September the following words: “to be able to meet expectations of some candidates from remote corners of the country who failed to reach the headquarters of their province, the Independent National Electoral Commission have just resolved the problems by opening a registration office for them; candidate from remote corners of the country should not be worried again about that issue, an office is opened at 134, Boulevard du 30 Juin in Kinshasa Gombe’’.

He continued to say that: “20 laptop are shared in four different offices, four computers par office, these office will be used to receive and process forms of candidates”.

The electoral commission is getting ready to send 170 more agents from Kinshasa to the whole country starting from the beginning of next week, the aims is about detecting different places where different voting offices will be opened. These people will also work in the recruitment of the new staff members of the electoral commission.

The statistics of 85% of reception offices of reception and process of application shows that up to Thursday 15th September there was 543 candidates applications form for MPs on the national level have been submitted. More political party planned to give the list of their candidates on Sunday 18th the last day for giving the presidential candidates, and the national level MPs candidates.

Up to today, 6 candidates on the presidential level, Etienne Tchisekedi the opposition leader and president of UDPS, Nzanga Mobutu the president of UDEMO and son to the late president Mobutu Seseseko, Vital Kamerhe the president of UNC, Antipas MBUSA NYAMWISI of RCD, Leon Kengo Wa Dondo the actual president of the senat has given his application yesterday 10th September for the presidential elections and Joseph Kabila the actual president is giving his application on Sunday 11 September in the afternoon.

Etienne Chisekedi left DR Congo for Brussels on 09th September to discuss with his supporters about the process the coming elections accompanied by key members of his political party, nothing is said about when he is coming back.
